Quotes About Reading

Quotes About Reading:

Revelation 1:3

”Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.”

Before the invention of televisions, computers, and the internet, reading was one of the most popular leisure activities that people had. The words on pages of beautifully written books seemingly had the magical capacity to transport people to wonderful and imaginative places. Just by the act of reading, minds both young and old were able to travel to distant places that were both exciting and informative. People used to spend hours a day simply immersing themselves in the magnificent worlds created by different authors.

Yet, as time goes by, and with the invention of television sets and video games, people seem to be slowly losing the capacity and passion for reading. With so many seemingly more exciting choices of leisure activities around, reading hardly holds the appeal it once had anymore. This is such a shame though, considering the many benefits that comes with reading.

Apart from the obvious benefits of improving vocabulary and word power, the act of reading provides a way of stimulating the imaginative brain which other forms of entertainment cannot provide. While TV shows and computer games do appear to be more tantalizing to the senses, reading creates a sort of vacuum between the words of the author and the mind of the reader which can only be filled by the active imagination of the reader. This in turn helps to stimulate the brain, creating a world that’s co-created by the reader and the author.

Another obvious benefit of reading lies in its ability to strengthen both reading and writing skills. Even in today’s society, the ability to read and write well provides great leverage in making a person successful. A well-written resume or even a carefully crafted sales copy help to make big difference in the building of a successful career.

But above it all, there’s a form of reading that provides even more benefits for our lives, and that’s the reading of the Word of God. Perhaps there’s a reason why God chose to communicate with us primarily through the written word? Perhaps by writing down His stories and instructions through His inspired writers, He has created a channel through which we can savour His Words again and again?

Even though to some the Bible may seem dull and stale at times, it is in fact the most exhilarating words that one can ever find. In it contains treasures untold and life abundant. From it flows the living waters and rivers of milk and honey. And all it takes for us to draw from it is a heart to read, and ears to listen.

Therefore, my hope is that this short writing, together with the quotes about reading collected below, can help to inspire and create a lifestyle of reading for us, as well as those around us. And while most forms of reading are beneficial to us, let us also remember that the continual reading of the Word of God is not only the most useful, but also one of the best ways to help create a truly successful and abundant life.

So go ahead, look through these quotes about reading and allow them to instill in you a new passion for reading. Let each of these quotes about reading open up the doors of your mind, and allow your imagination to take flight.
